Bucky, Greta and I rolled out our unofficial tribute to Hunt’s Donuts on July 10th at Needles and Pens. There were free donuts and we both read our Hunt’s pieces. Bucky was amazing — so funny. I was honored to be on the bill with him. He read a great piece at the end about Frankie Glitter Doll and Frank’s Depression Poetry — two of Bucky’s dead friends who were around when I first moved to San Francisco. Greta passed out 3D glasses for her 3D portrait show and everyone had them on the whole time I was reading to them. Pretty eery to look out to the sea of impassive, blue and red eyed faces! Walking home after the show, Bucky and I came across a “Glitter Doll” tag written in the sidewalk cement on 16th street — a sweet ending to a great night of remembering old Mission District stories.
