Tuesday, Dec. 18th, 8pm
Free!

We’re stoked to announce the dual release of Erick Lyle’s Scam #9 and Mike Taylor’s new Monkey Vision comic. To celebrate in this season of celebration, we’re going to join forces with Jacob Berendes, the brains and brawn behind Mother’s News (the paper of record), and read to you. The reading will be followed by a special top secret film of which we can only say it is about the criminal activity of an art collective, is made by a living canonical American experimental filmmaker, and takes place in Russia.Scam #9 is the story of Black Flag’s classic first LP, Damaged,  but it’s also an insight into L.A. in the early eighties, when Daryl Gates’ LAPD were faced with a strange new subculture that wasn’t so into peace and love. A shorter version initially appeared in the L.A. Weekly, but the full story appears here, footnotes, interviews, and photos. Erick will be reading some of the juicy parts, as well as presenting the Black Flag Power Point Presentation and his photo series, “Black Flag Bars Appearing in the Built and Natural Environment.” You have not seen this before.

R.A.D. Is the new Monkey Vision  comic, and it stands for Reflexive Anxiety Disorder. Mike Taylor will not be reading from that at all, because reading comics is for private time. Instead, he’ll be presenting the second chapter of an ongoing book on new iterations of ironic representation in art and music. This one is the story of a performance artist who wound up in serious litigious hot water due to some re-sampling of some already sampled work from the pre-anything-goes era of the internet, but after the anything-goes era of sampling in hip-hop.
Mother’s News is the immensely successful actual newspaper  from the desk of Jacob Berendes. It tends to cover art, astrology, gossip, and comics by famous and common people alike. Jacob will be visiting from Providence, RI, and it’s actually anybody’s guess what he’ll be presenting. We are certain that it will be smart, funny, and Jacob will be taller than anyone in the room.More Information:
