I can still remember the last time I was in the band during the long summer of 1999… the epic 5-hour band practices, the long afternoons spent pushing our gear in a shopping cart to Starcleaners to practice, Wade’s never ending trips to jail and the emergency room… But Y2K never happened and we are alive to do it all over again in Brooklyn at Don Pedro’s (Manhattan Ave at Boerum, near Lorimer JMZ stop).

The show is a release party for the new Starcleaners release, the 50 Million DVD which features over two hours of live footage of all their lineups and incarnations and formations. It includes tons of live footage of all their hits and various illegal and life threatening incidents throughout the years including their now-legendary slow motion drug freakout that destroyed the Instant Beer Pleasure Lounge in Chattanooga, TN in 1997. Wild shit!

Booby Joe Ebola and The Weird Fantasy Band share the bill on Friday. 8:00 PM, $7

50 Million and Shell’s other band, ShellShag, play again the next day in mysterious Somers Point, NJ in the afternoon. No one knows anything about this show now but I swear it will happen!

Ivy, Greg Harvester, and I (3/4 of Black Rainbow) will be opening for Pierced Arrows on October 23rd in a boxcar on the hobo Utopian land at the Black Butte Center For Railroad Culture in the shadow of Mt. Shasta at Black Butte, CA. Our long hoped for meeting with Pierced Arrows was, of course, foretold in song by the wizard, Fred Cole, in the very first song on the first Pierced Arrow LP, “Black Rainbow”, in which Fred sings, “Black Rainbows are chasing me!”Of course he knew it all along.

One of Greg’s countless other bands, DIRTY MARQUEE, also opens and we hear friends from far and wide are coming out to marvel at the toughness and sweetness of Fred and Toody’s harmonies and lifetime of rock and roll achievement. If you can make it, the gig is right off the rail line in Black Butte — just 15.6 miles north of the crew change in Dunsmuir! Check the Center site for directions…

Thrillhouse Records of San Francisco put out the first one in time for our summer tour. This record has three songs and comes with a 28-page booklet with information about the Diggers of San Francisco, the Alemany Farm, the Tenderloin National Forest, and former journeyman major-leaguer, Jim Walewander , as well as some art work from Sy Loady, Caroline Paquita, and Joey Alone.
