I am going on a short reading tour this month with my old friend, Jeff Miller, the writer behind Canada’s best and longest-running zine, Ghost Pine. Jeff and I are celebrating the release of brand new anthologies of the old issues of our zines. We will also have the pleasure of reading with other old and new friends along the way like Jake Berendes, Cristy Road, Eleanor Whitney, Mike Taylor, China Martens, and even that pizza-obsessed dude from Slice Harvester. I’m back in the Bay for a minute and am happy to announce I have a couple cool reading gigs while I’m here in town. Friday, October 16, I will be appearing with Layla Gibbon from Maximum Rock and Roll and John Marr from Murder Can Be Fun at a Litquake panel discussion on the underground press in the Bay Area. The discussion is moderated by Eric Z. of Instant City fame and will be followed by readings. It is at Chrome Bags, 580-4th Street in San Francisco and starts at 8:00 PM. THIS EVENT IS FREE!!!

The following day, Saturday, October 17, I will be presenting a new slide show on cement etchings in San Francisco sidewalks at ATA’s Other Cinema. The show includes visual presentations from friends Sam Green, Dara Greenwald, and Marc Moscato and also starts at 8:00 PM. ATA is at 992 Valencia at 20th street in San Francisco.

At last, the Onion Flavored Rings pile in the mini-van with all-star roadie, Erin Yanke, and head out in late September on our first nationwide tour since 2005. My buddy, Kal Spelletich, a longtime SF artist and street warrior, is coming back to NYC for the September 3rd closing party for his recent show at Jack Hanley Gallery (136 Watts, just below Canal Street at Holland Tunnel). The show is called California Investigative Healing and includes Kal’s homemade robots, the music of Herb Alpert, some wild folk elixirs, and flying, splattering chocolate! He has asked me to read at the event, so please come check it out if you are in NYC. Craig Baldwin‘s latest film, Mock Up on MU, is also playing during the show. Show starts at 6:00 PM, reading probably closer to 7:00 PM.

Fittingly, my very last events promoting this book will take place back in my home state of Florida and in my old city of Miami. I’m looking forward to cafe cubano and cheap black beans and rice and swimming in the ocean at midnight in December — some of the best things about Miami. In Miami, I’m happy to have come home to a show at the venerable indy bookstore, Books and Books. I will also be joined at Miami’s only DIY infoshop, The Firefly, by returning Miami native, Cristy Road, who also has a new book out on Soft Skull, called “Bad Habits: A Love Story“. NEW SOUTHERN TOUR DATES IN DECEMBER w/ documentary “I’m Like This Everyday”

I’m excited to announce some new dates back home in The Region. I’ll be reading in Chattanooga, TN and Asheville, NC on December 5 and 6 on tour with old friend and band member, Mitchell Powers, and his new short documentary film, “I’m Like This Everyday”. The 20-minute film, a selection at this year’s San Francisco Indy Documentary Film Fest and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Fest, is about the life of Dalton, GA’s legendary underground musician, Peter Stubb and his walk on the line between art and mental illness. You can read the short piece I wrote about Mitchell’s film in the San Francisco Bay Guardian here.

As of this writing, it looks, too, like our old band, Ye Olde Buttfuck, will play a rare reunion at the Chattanooga show. We had our first show eight long years ago on the night after the 2000 election when they were still counting — or not counting — the votes. That night we proudly debuted what we announced was “the first anti-President George W. Bush song by any punk band in America”, our hastily written song, “Double Fuck W.” In December 2008, we hope to get some of the shit off our backs and close the door on this long, doomed era with one more show! You can listen to our 2003 song “Sirens” here, or listen to our “cover” of former Attorney General, John Ashcroft’s song, “Let The Eagle Soar” from a live show at Gilman Street in Berkeley in January 2004 here.

As of this writing, the Chattanooga punks are still looking for a place to hold the show. Location TBA.
