THE SANDINISTAS IN THE MISSION DISTRICT OF SAN FRANCISCO

My long piece on SF poet, activist, and, yes, guerilla warrior, Roberto Vargas ran this week in the Bay Guardian. It tells the now somewhat forgotten story of how Latino poets in the Mission in the 1970′s went to fight alongside the Sandnistas in their victorious revolutionary war against the dictator, Somoza. The story is centered on an inspirational figure, poet Roberto Vargas, who was at the epicenter of that long ago Mission District. Happy birthday today, Roberto!
